Rhiannon O’Neil is an emergent museum collections professional with a vested interest in using material culture to bridge the past and the present. Their master’s thesis explored the material embodiment of gender in late colonial Virginia, arguing that clothing became a contested site of identity on the bodies of enslaved people. At Surratt Historic Site and Museum, they have comprehensively inventoried the 3-D collections, and are working to activate the collections in community-oriented programming.
